Gather your equipment
- French press
- Freshly roasted beans
- Grinder (if your beans aren't ground)
- Kettle
- Timer
- Spoon for stirring
Heat water
- Bring fresh water to a boil, then wait 1 minute for it to cool slightly before starting.
Measure and grind coffee
- Use 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio (25g coffee:375g water). So, if you are using a 1L French Press, you'll need around 70g coffee.
- Grind beans on a medium grind setting. Because a French Press is an immersion brewer, it needs larger particles than espresso to ensure the coffee is well extracted.
Add coffee grinds to the french press
- Add coffee inside the brewer and shake a little to level it out
Start the brew
- Start timer
- Pour all water in one go to saturate all the coffee
- Allow to steep for 4 minutes, then stir
- Scrape off any leftover crust that is on the surface of the brew.
Now Wait!
- This might be hard as you have allowed brewed the coffee and it should be ready - but trust us!
- Wait at least 4 minutes for the coffee grinds to settle and the temperature to cool
- Then, gently press down the plunger
- Pour into cups and enjoy.
